MY MUSIC :
Before reasoning it, I call it: latin-jazz-flamenco-bluegrass-classical-and others.
Now here's the reasoning.
Music always evolves. In the past, musicians have explored every avenue they tought possible during their time and period. As time goes by, new possibilities are brought to our attention making music evolve the same way our way of thinking evolves. Bringing us new mixes, new languages...
But these new ideas create less and less impact as the ones from the past decades. Like Beethoveen, Shoenberg, Jimi Hendrix or Metallica... naming only these 4 wich shocked Men and his way of thinking.
A musician in 2008 can create his own language from his origins. Nevertheless, he will rapidly and clearly get catalogued. Why trying to be the new wave, the new style, when the ansers are in our heritage. I wonder.
To the ones who listen to me playing, I hope simply that they can hear my culture, my soul and my story. On stage, the goal is to present and share our beings with the ones who will be willing to hear.

BIOGRAPHY
I'm 6 years old, my parents offer memy first music lessons. With a guitar bigger than me borrowed from the uncle, I drive an hour every week and learn easy tunes needing only 2 fingers... but sometimes 4 to play only one note! Competitions and family shows, each semester, I grow up to be as tall as my guitar and I keep asking my teacher to show me hoe to rock'n'roll but we stay with basics wich I become to respect and love: classical music.
As years goes by, more fingers make their way on the strings. I meet Patrick Roux who will become my teacher at the Conservatory of Music of Québec in Hull.
Coming back from my weekly lessons, I manage to make my little rebellion in my room, playing the rock'n'rolls and blueses I always wanted to learn. I start playing with bands in the neighborhood, while still studying classical full time. I win a couple of first prizes in competitions, and collect bands and musical projects.
Diplomas obtained, I go to Peru with saxophone player Yves Lacoursière to study music from the Andes and latin rythms. When I come I compose for the SERVANTES project wich started in latin-rock but became latin-jazz influenced by flamenco, classical and bluegrass!
My bandmates started calling me "SERVANTES" (pronouced Cervantès), to illustrate the passion I have for latin music. (Miguel de CERVANTES is the name of a great Spanish writer from the 16th Century). My recent projects brought me to Sevilla to study flamenco, a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.
In 2007, I release my first DVD album. I am now working on an album of jazz standards arrangements inspired by flamenco.

On July 18th 2006, we had the pleasure to present Servantes and his Flamenco-Jazz group at the Ottawa’s National Arts Center. This colorful evening show was a great success with a full-house audience proving their appreciation with long cheering from the beginning to the end. I sincerely believe that Servantes’s show has been one of the highlights of the 2006 Ottawa’s International Jazz Festival. Servantes’s guitar playing is of rare beauty: sometimes intense, sometimes with high finesse. He is also a great band leader, generous towards the talented musicians who accompany him.
